    • @Jay Means You wanna have cobalt, you gonna pay for cobalt. Otherwise, no cobalt for you. Right now, corners are cut so we get cobalt for a dumping price. That won't work for long. At latest if there's an environmental disaster or the cobalt mines are in a war zone, it gets much more expensive to get cobalt. This will eat up all "savings" we made for the time the West got cobalt for a steal. So simply give them the tools so it won't be expensive in the future, and pay the price of cobalt. Also, miners getting decent wages won't sleep on their money, but expend it for wares we can sell. That way, we profit from them, and they profit from us. Which is how economy is, BTW, supposed to work. It's THAT simple.

  • It is amazing how this video danced around Lithium Iron Phosphate chemistry which has no supply constraints whatsoever (other than that of Lithium itself which is pretty soft), has the longest cycle life of all, is safe (not igniting even if punctured), and non-toxic. Oh, on top of that it provides more stable voltage than other chemistries, and thus requires far less sophisticated charging control circuitry if any. The energy density is lower than others, but sufficient even for vehicle use (used in Teslas), and definitely for stationary energy storage. Arizona battery farm disaster is absolutely irrelevant if LFP batteries are used, and they will be according to Tesla plan revealed on Battery Day.

  • i think we're too happy with gas in the late 50 years, that's why we late with energy storage technology. many electric car were made in that year but no good response at all but for now we have a new scientist businessman that can boost energy storage technology until it limit and make a new segment that make big company cant overlook at it. i think we just hit 3 from 10 point in energy storage technology and hopefully no greedy oil businessman involved even though that was impossible

  • 3:40 Just semantics but you described charging as supplying the opposite voltage to the battery as if you would swap positive and negative or something. Even though the current flow is reversed, the polarity remains the same. Depending on charging or discharging, the voltage would either be higher or lower than the battery voltage, just not negative.

  • Relying on batteries to solve climate change is such an inefficient and backwards idea. The amount of carbon required to dig up the resources required is not sustainable. Subways, trams, metros and light rail powered directly by electricity is the obvious and efficient solution, but there's not profit to be made there so it's not presented as a solution.

  • There are cobalt, nickel, and manganese rich nodules at the bottom of the ocean. It requires no children to harvest. Not a lot of people are using these. There are nodule zones around the world and you don’t need to dredge the floor as these nodules just lay on the ocean floor ready to be harvested.

  • Hey can you do a video on pneumatic energy storage? Or air pressure energy storage? I’m not sure which it would be called. I’m sure the efficiency is terrible but less of a mining concern, plus over time I’m sure air pressure storage can gain a lot of efficiency, still probably not ever as efficient at a battery. But it’s gotta be super super clean, especially coupled with windmill, or solar panel provided energy. But I’ve heard of plans of storing a gigantic tank underground to store air. Also I think there was a company in India that made a full pneumatic vehicle but not very good range, I don’t know if they abandoned their plans. I’ve also heard as far as safety concerns they can use carbon fiber tanks instead of metal so it can crack instead of exploding. Either way it will for sure be the cleanest way of storage. Plus it would be nice to hear super high RPM air turbine engines in a vehicle in the future. If nobody else tries then I’ll do it someday in the future 😂

Take a look at Daimler they have taken some bold and innovative steps such as helping launch local companies who follow The UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. The companies are frequently audited to ensure compliance. This helps improve the local circumstances snd strengthen their rights, which leads to long-term social change.

The ocean is full of water Use water.... h2O, and a combination of other things, like wind turbines that will charge the car if the car is moving, so like air moving through a radiator. Use that air to turn wind turbines, and what happened to that tech. Where they used the rotating tires as turbine. Generators??? Do a combination of things to keep the batteries charged as it moves....so it recharges....as it uses... some engineer can figure out how much it uses. Then use wind and the tires turning generators to charge it the same amount it uses, come on ....give up the more battery power thing, and “we need more raw material “. Thing !! concentrate on how to charge as it’s being used..... capacitors, stepping up , or dwn voltages, to create more energy.... just an idea !!!

  • batteries are a horrible technology, the very amount of mining, extraction and manufacturing is NOT going to stop the Co2 polution that is needed, its actually going to INCREASE it for the amount they say we need.   • At the Giga factory Nevada grand opening, they said they are designing their products for optimal and precise recycling in house. Essentially, they get all the precious and interesting metals back for essentially free, apart from the cost of transportation, to be re-manufactured into new batteries and products...all powered by renewably powered electricity. It definitely sounds like circular - waste equals food - everything is a nutrient industrial production. It definitely sounded like cradle-to-cradle production. It would be wonderful if all manufacturers could have more and more safe and healthy Cradle to Cradle Certified products to offer clients. A world without waste nor pollution; energy abundance. I was quite interested to hear that, in your opinion, lithium could be better used in vehicles rather than grid batteries. Interesting. It is pretty important to phase out industrial carbon emissions. Perhaps in a few years Tesla will use different chemistry for their grid batteries. I am hopeful, thankful even happy their Hornsdale Powerpack big grid battery powered by a large wind farm is operating brilliantly.

  • Another great video. I would love to see one on Organic Flow batteries - like the one being developed by the German company CMBlu. This technology almost seems to be too good to be true. No degradation, elegant scalability and lignin as a non-toxic main ingredient, that is an abundant waste product of the paper industry...

    • ​@Dirk Knight I get your cynicism about new battery technologies. Lots of claims out there, but little proof. Its just neither polite nor productive to dish out a blanket-statement like "none of those attributes are true". As to its commercialization: A first product on the market was tentatively planned by CMBlu for 2021. But I cannot find any recent anouncements. Another company - Jena Batteries - is currently running a 100 kW pilot plant in the netherlands - but no commercial product yet. So this technology is indeed not interesting to you for now.

    • ​@Dirk Knight Ok, why don't you try a conversation more like this: In a Redox Flow battery, the electrolyte is stored in big tanks. Its energy is released by running it through an energy converter stack. To increase power output, one simply has to add more converters. To increase storage capacity one just has to add another tank CMBlu state on their website about their organic electrolyte: "One possible source is lignin, approximately 20 billion tonnes of which are an annual byproduct of global pulp production and for which there have previously been no alternative uses." I remember the reading about those batteries having (almost) no degradation. But I wasn't able to find anything to back that up just now. So lets take that one off the list for now... ... See, that kind of conversation would be useful. Otherwise, you'll just be pushed into the troll-camp.

    • @Raymond C. I earn around $15,000 to $17,000 on a monthly basis investing with him. I pay a lot in commission though (15% on all profit return) but that’s fair enough given how much return I get working with him.

  • Real engineering I have a question. During Missions 6 and mission 18 of Ace Combat 7:Skies unknown. You encounter planes that are launched up to speed inside of a tunnel before immediately taking off after exiting the tunnel, I was wondering if something like this was even possible in real life.
