In this video my wife Brooke and I build a very simple, very affordable cabin. With a simple single pitch roof and only 2 windows. While I was filming this building project so was Brooke. You can check out her first video featuring this cabin by clicking the link below. I'll see you on part 2

Amazing video. Amazing cabin build !!!!
Great concept...but what keeps the disturbed soil that the circular concrete bases are situated on, from settling and compromising the entire structure? I have dealt with disturbed earth and it always settles....poking around with a wooden pole and tamping with a block will not stop settling earth. But, maybe u only need this for a few months. But great for a u tube video
Is there any plans for this like blueprints.
Round Concrete cookies. My wife made those when we first got married.

Have you included the cost of the LAND in your video. I haven't watched it because I know I couldn't afford it. Whether or not you can have an outhouse and that it cannot be near a waterway, etc..???
Hey Dave, Very nice instructional video...Thanks very much for posting and for sharing your valuable knowledge and experience...Good karma to you! I particularly like your comment that humans are meant to build their own structures...Yes, for millennia, we've been building our own small structures (grass huts, shacks, cabins, stone dwellings, etc.) and living in subsistence economies where we do most things ourselves and help one another to be successful...It still goes on in many parts of the world today...Only fairly recently has labor become specialized and we've all bought into the market economy, where we feel compelled (and are often required to by government regulations) to depend on "professionals" and are reluctant to do may things ourselves...Let's all push back and reclaim our true, original nature. Namaste. Cheers! P.S. Might you have a list of the tools and materials that you used to build this lovely 10' x 12' cabin?
Your wife recommended me to check out your channel, from her channel "Girl in the Woods" You are both very resourceful and have very interesting channels!
Watching from Singapore. Loved this :)

Every man should know how to build, and plan. Are they really that hard to find?
I hope you find your handy man.
Hallelujah, AMEN!
You can't find a gal like brook on Tinder or Bumble.

How did you get the angle for the rafter cut? Did I miss that? Thanks fun video.

How much it cost to buy a land and how much land do you need to build a caving like that
Depends where. Near cities, pretty expensive. In back country, cheaper. You still need to come up with taxes every year. Sometimes people give away land for free (still need to pay taxes). It's usually swamp type shit.
Just stumbled across your videos looking for something on shed building. I’m a city suburb dweller in SoCal looking to build a quiet place to hang, out of the house but out of the weather, at the back of my property.(maybe 70 feet from the house). Nice job on the video. Simple plans, simple directions, simple techniques, nice narration, easy to understand yet thorough. I’m pushing 65, work as an upholsterer, good with my hands. I think your right, it’s do-able, even at my age. Thanks for your efforts. I’m enjoying the girl outdoor series as well......
Well done! The only things I saw that I would have done differently is cut the siding to fit over the depth of the floor structure. That would really prevent any wind driven rain infiltration into the floor structure, help keep the air in the floor cavity still, and thus work better as an insulating cavity. From the looks of it, it looks like you extended the roof well enough out from the face of the exterior wall, but I would have also extended it out a bit further on the wide-window window side wall, that faces the view that's so great. Again, that would help prevent wind driven rain from infiltrating where the wall meets the roof.
Someone needs to make a how to video on how to get off your lazy ass and actually build one of these.
While still expensive, its definitely more affordable than a house this size in California or NY. Cheers.

When I first arrived in the US in 1991, I rented a room in a house in Henrietta, NY. I asked the landlord, a Caucasian Rochester native, if he built the house. The answer kind of surprised me back then. He said he had the builder built it. I thought people would actually build their own house in the US. Can't recall where I got that impression, maybe Disney cartoon. In reality, that's not the case.
I love it yeah some places require you to have a professional do the work such a pain even with a kit metal building and such.
I hear you loud and clear .screws dont have the strenghts of nails.. you did fine.you guys did great.. dont get pissed you did something these wine-er's cant... people to day just dont get it, i like the hole thing and all your awncers . im not a profishional .. iv watched your wifes channel .. cool . we have our own land and i just looked at the old old lady an said we are doing this next yr ...we are in our 60ty's good job u guys
All is good until a gang of illegals (brought here by democrats) finds it and decides it is theirs.
Brooke really did nothing except get a continual mention from the creator of this project.
Do you think that a 12x20 cabin with a loft will be stable on this type of foundation in the sandy soil of northern Michigan?
incredibly inspiring, thank you thank you thank you
What was your total build cost if you dont mind sharing?
Many places won't allow something this small to be lived in longer than a few weeks before they consider it a "main residence" and will either require you to add square footage, or not allow you to live in it for long periods of time. Don't let the down payment/mortgage and taxes fool you. You only THINK you own your land.
The spurious scent pathophysiologically measure because firewall noteworthily disagree apud a cheerful turtle. murky, glossy selection
Great instructional presentation but a question: Was there a reason for not extending your siding below the bottom plate of the outer walls, or using flashing behind the siding, to prevent water and air intrusion at the base of the walls? -- covering the joint of rim/sub-floor/wall and giving a draft stop and water shed transition.
Well, if this isn't the construction version of Bob Ross, I don't know what is.
Would the round pads work for a 12'x24' cabin?
very nice, thank you #sgtbeastlarson
The video was very informative and gives everyone the incentive to try building one of these cabins. Thanks a lot!!!!
LOVE YOUR WORK.
I built a basic 6ft. x 6ft. x 8ft. hunting blind. It took 4 days...and that was on wheels ! Lets make it " simple " !

You're so right, we are supposed to be able to build. My grandpa build so much when I was younger. I so wish he was here to teach me now that I'm older. But hey I will learn myself! by the way I love this video
What a stupid, misleading title. Not everyone can build it. You how to know how to build it in the first place.
My grandpa loved to build stuff also. He was always making something out of wood. He died in 99 but sometimes I get a random whiff of sawdust and I know its him. He always smelled of sawdust ❤
@Liam Harris He did die. Sometimes our loved ones that have passed on will give us signs of their presence. Sometimes I get a random smell of sawdust when I'm nowhere near any sawdust, I believe it's my grandfather giving me a sign that he's still with me.
@Liam Harris I was very close to my grandmother, I should also say I've been meditating for 10 years. When i get into a very deep level in meditation and If i call her out she comes to me. I shit you not.
What do you mean? You said he died
Awesome video 👍
What books do you recommend for building a home?
You have a beautiful property sir. Very jealous!
awesome!!!!
Instead of hammering so much can you use a nail gun?
People should make up a bunch of these for the homeless.
After watching your 3 part series. I am going for it! I am building my wife an office for her business 16x24!!!! Thanks man learned a lot from these vids!
Like your simple approach to building a little house. I am very poor but have a minimum wage job. I live in my car. If I can find a place to build one, I will. I need a place to live and would rather build it myself.
