  • 4 Simple Reasons Nadal is the GOAT: 1_Nadal has Olympic gold in singles, Federer and djokovic dont have it. 2_Nadal has won 20 slams with just one slam being on a slow court, while Federer and Djokovic every year have 3 slams in fast courts to potentially win since they're better on fast court, while Nadal is better in slow courts. It's crazy that he won 20 slams with just one slam on slow court every year. 3_ Nadal has had a lot of injuries and for longer time than Djokovic and Federer injuries, BUT STILL Nadal has 20 Slams and 1 Olympic Gold in singles. Federer has 20 but He's older and he has zero olympic gold, Djokovic has 17 with zero olympic gold. Federer and Djokovic never beat a prime Nadal on Roland Garros, while Nadal beat prime Federer in Australian Open 2009 and Wimbledon 2008 and also beat prime Djokovic in Us open 2013

      Game OvaisGame Ovais17 tuntia sitten
    • @Game Ovais With slow courts I meant exactly for the bounce height on clay very higher than grass and hard courts. That's exactly the point. The irony about denying how many slams Nadal would have right now if It was 2 CLAY SLAMS every year instead of 3 FAST COURTS and only 1 CLAY SLAM. This would be a huge difference for the Goat argument and you're acting like it doesnt matter. Of course right now we cant change it but still It's an injustice for Nadal. Nadal had the same chances to get olympic gold as Federer and Djokovic chances. The irony is that he won it on hard court as well ahah.

  • to me this match was the epitome of what smarts against arrogance can result to ... and all though am not a fan of either of them if a had to choose Nadal does bring a certain hardworking focussed love for the actual sport (as apposed to the frantic "I must be the best I must brake all records" that Mr Djokovic and his surroundings bring) ... so at the end of the day one must respect at least that

    Thoukis ThoukisThoukis ThoukisPäivä sitten
    • @Game Ovais you said it your self he is the greatest returner so he bases his game on returning that to me is boring its as simple as that- if it takes 10- 20-30-40 strikes to win a point and at the end you do it cause of a fault its unattractive so yes ok lets just say this Djokovic took movement to another level and Federer took the hole sport of tennis to another level - Roger will always be the magician who captured the imagination of millions and Djoko will always be the best ... mover!!!

      Thoukis ThoukisThoukis Thoukis2 tuntia sitten
    • @Thoukis Thoukis You mentioned 3 of the next generation of players who have somewhat aggressive games even two of those are closer in style to Djokovic than Federer. You forget to mention guys like Medvedev, Rublev, Zverev and Coric who are all instinctive baseliners. If you think Djokovic is just defensive you haven't a clue about the sport. Djokovic is an aggressive baseliner who uses power and angles. He is also the greatest returner the game has seen using depth and variety. Clowns like you who think they know a lot about the sport get exposed anytime the discussion gets technical. Djokovic is a great player because he does most things well and very few badly. Also who said they are teaching kids to stay in points and not win them outright? No coach teaches that lol. The coaches are teaching kids how to turn defensive positions into attacking positions. The greatest exponent of this in the last few years has been Djokovic. The game evolves, Lendl made the sport physical and intense, no one is complaining about that now are they? Djokovic has taken movement to another level and no one will be complaining about that either in the future.

      Game OvaisGame Ovais14 tuntia sitten
    • @Game Ovais so my opinion is this ... if this is true, if they are actually teaching kids how to play like Djoko then this will be the Death of Tennis! If they are teaching kids how to stay in a point till the opponent faults and primarily defend then a sport as aggressive by its nature (Federer is the epitome of what this sport is) will surelly die - but so far thank God we dont see signs of this since most of the new kids (Tsitsipas, Sinner, Aliazime and many more) are of course basing there game on aggression - so lets hope that this Djokovic style if play is a passing face

      Thoukis ThoukisThoukis Thoukis15 tuntia sitten
    • @Thoukis Thoukis You use the word "smarts" yet you can't spell smug and you can't use the word arrogant/arrogance in the correct context. By the way Djokovic has the right to be arrogant, he is world no 1, hold 2 slams at the moment and is the only player to have won all the major ITF and ATP tournaments. He got beaten by the greatest clay courter and that's OK, he'll recover from it as he has before.

      Game OvaisGame Ovais16 tuntia sitten
    • @Thoukis Thoukis You got very emotional very quickly. I want to know your thoughts about the fact tennis academies around the world are training the next generation of kids to play like Djokovic? Specifically his split step movement. The tennis academies and coaches don't care about his "arrogance" do they?

  • And who says you can't serve and volley on clay courts? 3:39 shows you can! Joker did it a few times. Bad year to Joker - US Open was kick out because he hit lines lady accidentally. Now he gets humiliated by King of Clay in straight sets. Joker is hitting as hard as he can but he was just outgunned by somebody who literally sleeps on clay. Congrats to Nadal!

    Zero CoolZero Cool3 päivää sitten
    • Hitting as hard as you can makes sense on other courts or against different opponents. Against Nadal on clay it hasn't worked, many have failed including Djokovic. I feel Djokovic should have played this match in the same way RBA has done against him recently. Just pick a side and keep hitting there and wait because off the ground he is the one player who can go toe to toe with Nadal even on clay. But that won't rememdy the terrible serve he had or the persistent use of the dropshot. Djokovic should have binned the dropped shot and gone for patience.

  • Here is my take on the goat debate and a message to those already annointing Nadal as the goat. The tour in general post the 2,000's was made to favor athletic baseliners and surfaces were slowed down. So many of the hardcourt surfaces actually favored Nadals game as opposed to Federers. How do you think Nadal magically carried his clay court game to other surfaces and beat Fed 3 times at the AO and made 5 Wimbledon finals? Grass and clay is more fair comparison in terms of preffered surface for each player. And guess what, Nadal got 3 masters 1,000 tours on his beloved clay, while Federer got 0. Imagine how many masters Fed would have if this were the case? For you to disregard weeks at number 1 and WTFs in the goat debate and rather champion Head to Head shows arrogance and a lack of understanding of the game. While slams are definitely one of the pinnacles of tennis, the sport is not only played 8 weeks in a year. It is played most the year and the higher the weeks at number 1, the more sustained excellence a player has shown as being the best in the game. This is a very big deal and something both Djokovic and Nadal way outshine Nadal in. How can you call a player the goat if he has been outperformed by many players by a huge margin? In regards to WTF's, they are considered by players, former players and analysts as being the most important tournament outside of slams. A player has to have a great year to qualify and best the elite 8. Some would even call it the "unofficial 5th slam". How can you possibly rank a master 1,000 tournament above that? Fed has won 6 and Djokovic 5. Nadal not winning even 1 is a glaring hole in his resume. And don't bring the excuse, "but it is only played on indoor hard", "it favors Federer"and "if it was only played on clay". Blah, blah, blah. It is only Nadals fault that he is not good enough to win on indoor against his rivals. It is kind strange people call a dirt baller who has only won 2 indoor tours his entire career as the most complete player and the goat. Lastly, head to Head is overrated bud. Styles make fights and Nadal was always a bad matchup for Fed. In addition, most of Nadals matches with Fed have been played on Nadals favored surfaces---clay and slow outside hard court. If they had played more on Feds favored surfaces--grass, fast hard and indoor hard, Fed would be leading the head to head. Furthermore, Davedenko and Dustin Brown lead the head to head with Nadal. Andy Roddick leads the head to head against Djokovic. Does that mean they are better players? It is true they are tied in slams, but Fed leads in the other major categories---weeks at number 1, WTF and overall titles. Quit disrespecting Federer and anointing Nadal the goat prematurely. Fed is the goat for now, but things could change. 2021 and 2022 will be exciting years to see how it unfolds. To conclude, Nadal certainly is in the goat conversation, but all things being equal, Federer indisputably has the better career at this point in time. This could, however, change in the future.

    • @Jacob Schmidt Olympic Gold easy draws? Lol, I remember Djokovic crying when he lost against Rafa, the top 3 always competed in the Olympics, what are you talking about? The World tour finals is the only tournament when you can lose and win the tournament anyway.

      norm2014norm20144 päivää sitten
    • @norm2014- Olympic Gold= 0 points, WTF= 1,500 points - Olympic Gold= easy draws and not many top players, WTF= elite 8 competition and no easy draws - Olympic Gold- any random player can enter the draw and win, WTF- you have to have a very good year on the tennis tour just to qualify OG is not on level of a WTF and only casuals like you would say so. And reality check, no surface is more difficult to win on than another. They all have their unique challenges. Injuries cannot be used as an excuse for Nadal not winning the WTF. The fact is he sucks on indoor surfaces. Like it or not, Federer has the overall better career at this stage.

      Jacob SchmidtJacob Schmidt5 päivää sitten
    • There will never be a GOAT, you cannot be the GOAT when you're not the number one in the most difficult surface according to the players, and the reason Rafa doesn't have a World tour title is because he only played there like five times in 15 years, Rafa never cared for that tournament much, he chose to take care of his body instead of playing that overrated tournament, an Olympic gold medal is more important, Federer and Djokovic have zero, they still have a chance next year, but that's how the things are right now.

  • Clearly no one plays tennis (pro) anymore. Otherwise these guys would eventually retire because new meat would come along. I am sorry, but it gets boring seeing the same players - over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over... (and I have been playing and watching tennis for 40+ years.)
