There was drama at the Monaco Historique where veteran driver Jean Alesi was taken out by Marco Werner. Alesi was leading the 1973-76 F1 era car race and holding off a determined second placed Werner. But with just three laps remaining Werner's Lotus 77 ran into the back Alesi's Ferrari 312B3, ending Alesi's race and putting Werner into the lead.

  • whatever. It would have been a great story, Alesi taking a 2nd F1 win in a Ferrari. Lovely gesture by Michael Lyons leaving his P1 trophy on Werner's car afterwards too.

  • It's usually on the approach to a corner where you get rear-end collisions. You don't hit the back of a car accelerating away from a corner unless something happened, to reduce its acceleration, such as when there's a missed gear. A tough call I would say.

  • Title of the video is a bit unfair!! Alesi money shifted, almost locking his rear tyres, you can see the rear of the car sit up under sudden deceleration. That and the black lines from sudden under-rotation of the rears. The Lotus had nowhere to go. I’d imagine the damage to that Ferrari didn’t stop at external stuff!
