  • I really don't like this new design 😭 .. apple was always so unique now it's more und more similar to another phones and laptops like android and microsoft. And the percent of battery isn't visible anymore, that is annoying

  • Flat design has been around since 2013. I think THAT'S getting a bit dated in my opinion.

  • Big Sur just completely trashed my MacBook Pro from 2016. i was stuck in a "this computer restarted because of a problem" loop. Several reinstalls didn't help. So glad I had a TimeMachine backup at hand and could revert to Catalina. I'm never updating again after this scare!

  • Big Sur is a big pile of bs. The control center? Almost all the controls were in the top bar or on the keyboard before. Also the idea of making the mac more like iOS is absolutely stupid!! Why couldn’t they hold off this garbage one more gen, so that I could completely satisfied get a m1 MacBook. With this repulsive interface I don’t know how long I’m going to have to wait

  • This is the worst verion of any MacOS ive used, and ive been a user for 20+ years. Not only does it look infantile, gawdy and garish, or the fact that it is too messy, or the ugly icons and windows and the horrible round edges..it was the fact that it wouldnt work properly with my external audio hardware and didnt recognise many of my apps. They've dumbed it down so that it looks like iOS and has a visual 'brand'..It just doesnt wor on a full size screen. This is a huge step backwards. It lasted for just under an hour before i erased it and reinstalled Catalina from the ground up.

  • It literally is the most hideous thing. Why does my $2000 computer (and 2 others i have) now look like a gigantic iPhone combined with a Leapfrog toy laptop. The idiots that came up with this one really lost sight of who actually pays Apple and thats the people who buy computers. Majority of Mac wannabes are only iPhone users. Most Mac computer owners don't use iPhone. In fact Apple has already lost that battle with Android (and got hit with a huge suit for attempting to suggest there was a texting issue with Androids by changing the text system to iMessage which removed SMS). If Apple paid attention to where their money comes in they wouldn't have made a gigantic Leapfrog.

  • It makes NO sense. Big Sur runs much faster and smoother on my pitifully slow 2016 Macbook 12" core M than it does on my much more powerful 2013 MacBook Air 13" i7. Just opening and moving folders on the desktop is agonizingly slow on the i7. Why does Apple hate older Macs?

  • It's so nice that my iMac 5K 2020 Big Sur shares "Screen Sharing" with my MacBook Pro 17" 2009 El Capitan by WiFi or Ethernet connection. I can work both MacOS with the old and new apps on iMac 5k 27" BIG desktops even though some apps only work for old computers. It works very well when I setup the connection correctly for both Macs.

  • Unlike many reviewers I have absolutely NO ties with Apple. I am not going to pretend to be a harsh reviewer only to be praising it like crazy (Linus Tech Tips). My recommendation is do NOT upgrade to Big Sur. Big Sur is bloated and inefficient. Your i7 will feel like a Pentium and that's just on the desktop. Big Sur takes almost twice the RAM of High Sierra with no benefits. The CPU utilization is high even when idle. Installing many apps will NOT work. Most annoying... video playback seems to be done by the CPU and not GPU. Really sluggish and pushes CPU utilization to MAX. Your MacBook might not even play 1080p anymore without dropping frames. I had to drop down to 720P. Something even my 10 year old MacBook did easily. Big Sur is basically a OS that will annoy anyone with a 5 year old Mac or older to buy new Macs.

  • Hello CNET. I have a question regarding the new version for Mac, the new Big Sur version. Format the mac, and then install the new Big Sur version. I could see that two hard drives are appearing, which in the previous version, Sierra did not have. Could you explain why two hard drives appear? Greetings from the USA.

    • When you're using a Mac PC (or any other PC OS), You need to feel like you're on the front of your PC, Not in front of the Tablet. And that's what Apple did on Big Sur. This is also what Microsoft did to Windows 8, They changed a lot and make it like a Tablet; and most of the PC Users didn't want to make their PC like a Tablet. Now that Microsoft found out that there are PC users are using touchscreen less than they expected, they now created Windows 10 that is more like "Touch Friendly" rather than "Touch-Based" OS. On the Other hand, Apple has no Touch-integration to their macs, but they make their Big Sur like a tablet, which is kinda turn off to other Mac Users.

  • 0:23 Clearly I missed something since I stayed with Mojave and skipped Catalina. I wasn't even aware that the startup sound went anywhere or was removed. 1) - This gentlemen is clearly into more of the iOS approach. That works if you're more into tablet devices. MacOS has continued to integrate more iconography and effects from iOS into its operating system which I respectfully disagree with. The two have always been separate for a reason. If I want to just use an iOS environment, I can use my iPad or my phone. From a UI or UX point of view, change is inevitable so I get it, but it shouldn't have to mimic iOS as much as it does. 2) - Having a drop shadow behind an icon isn't some design flaw and moving backward. If anything, giving it more of that flat, 2D feel is going backward to the 80's. Functionality is the cornerstone of every great system, and OSX doesn't have to transition to iOS in order for that to get better. 3) - 2:51 Of course the Software Chief of Apple is going to say things like, "It's the best it's ever been" or "we've never been further forward toward a better system!" That's not an Apple thing, that's an everyone at every company thing. No one is ever going to say, "Our changes are subpar with small enhancements this revision." This portion of the video means absolutely nothing and is a pointless argument to include. 4) - 3:15 Adding more rounded edges and translucent left panels aren't significant "redesigns" those are very small changes to continue the progress toward an iOS integration over time so the shock is less absorbent. Finder looks and behaves the same that it's been for many years. 5) - 4:55 Are you an advocate of Windows Vista??? Why do widgets have to be on the desktop of MacOS??? I feel like opinions are meant to be subjective, but I equally feel this is just flat out wrong. What a silly piece of content to include in a review when it's been done many times before, and dashboard back on OSX 10.4 was perfectly fine for widgets if you wanted a quick side panel of random, tiny applets. It's exhausting to keep watching this video any further. I don't even use Safari for all the right reasons. In short, Big Sur is more like iOS than ever before even though my Macbook Pro is not an iOS device! It's so sad to see the direction that Apple just keeps moving toward. WHY, why, and why does it have to keep moving toward an iPad? MacOS defined itself as one of the most powerful operating systems when OSX 10.1 was born. What happened to 'Think Different' ?? Isn't it okay to be different, and not like everything else? Apple challenged people to not be like everything else, and yet it continues to try to be like all other iOS devices, one update at a time. If Apple really wants to change the game, and I mean really stand out, then MacOS *NEEDS* to be *COMPLETELY* separate from iOS's interface. I feel the only way for me to experience this is to keep my partition split, and at bootup, have MacOS on one side, and Linux on the other with my grub boot menu providing me the option of Mac or Linux. Only then, do I really feel that I can escape this iOS monotony and do something different.
