I Bought Tavarish's Maserati From CAR TREK... Huge Mistake!
I bought @Tavarish 's Maserati Coupe GT from season 2 of Car Trek!
Come along as I take a look and drive my "new" car... A 2003 Maserati Coupe GT. This car started life as an entry level exotic car... Then it got driven a lot... Then someone removed the interior.... Then Tavarish made it a race car.... and now the whole world knows it the car from Car Trek! Yes, the same Maserati Trofeo "tribute car" that Ed Bolian made endless fun of during filming.
At the end of Car Trek S2, the appraiser made Tavarish an offer to buy this car for $5,000, but after driving the car for 5 minutes... He immediately realized his mistake. Shortly after that, @Hoovies Garage brokered a deal for me to make the same mistake, except I didn't know what I was getting into, because the show hadn't aired yet, and I was buying the car sight unseen.... For $5,000 what could go wrong?!
I am beyond excited to own this car, and I hope you all enjoy seeing it on the channel.
Thanks for watching!
If you haven't seen Car Trek season 2, check it out on Tavarish's channel here:

Certainly this is the cheapest Maserati Coupe in the USA
Possibly the cheapest Maserati in the world!

Make sure that she isn't your only car because she's never going to be reliable, or respectable. Don't ever take anybody whose opinion is important for your future for a ride with her. Drive that car like she's a Italian porn star and the two of you will always be happy.
It can't be a great stock car, it never was one. Strip it, clean it, cage it, hot rod it, throw away anything that doesn't make it go fast, replace the back seat with subs in a carbon enclosure, paint it the most garish neon that you can stand, and never forget that it's a cheap beater super car for one reason only; so you can drive the hell out of it. That car exists to drive hard and fast.
The clutch replacement will cost you at least $5k. I have a Maserati spyder 02. I had my interior redone in Vegas
Yikes. Not looking forward to that kind of a replacement cost. I was thinking it would be slightly less because mine is a traditional manual.
The Ferrari 360 and 430 got F1 transmission too...you have to do clutch and pump no matter what...
Go with the race car theme. Gut the horrible interior and install a full cage.
That would be tight!
Make it a race car
Thanks Jeremy!
I vote u go in the direction of a landfill!!!
😢
Go full racecard, streetlegal if possible. Getting all the missing parts for the interior would be a big and expensive hassle.
Thanks for the suggestion Oliver!
Keep the outside racecar but you need to do something about the interior. Maybe Hoovie can make something happen with J&J Autowrecking? 🤣
I agree! I actually already fixed some of it!
I would love to see it get full a standalone ecu. And a full on "race car interior" because it would probably be cheaper.
Maserati? More like Messerati which is what i was thinking when i was watching Car Trek. I would say at this point if you havent already decided what to do with it your best bet wouldnt be to restore it as it would cost more than twice its value and no guarantee you can replace all of the interior to it. Just make it a stripped down racer and drive it till it blows. But hey thats just me
@Elliott Alvis No problem i was wondering where that car really ended up and i did see where you improved the interior from the garbage that it originally was.
Messerati 😂 thanks for watching Matthew!
Keep the race car look. It’s so unique. Make the interior as close to factory as possible. Bad ass car.
Thanks Rich! I think that’s my plan!
Do a “Thelma & Louise” tribute and drive that Italian money pit into the Grand Canyon. Without you in it, of course.
I appreciate that you at least want to spare me 😂
fistream.info/work/videot/hNaaepqSfJ6ryps Given this was once Tavarish's purchase, I'm not surprised to hear the thing's haunted, but I thought they already fixed the FIRE issue.....
It looks like you officially bought a Limone.
Track car
Heck yeah! Thanks Michael
I'm voting for resto mod 😊
Trash it bro keep the sweaty seat since your very excited about it
Lol just keep the seat jk bro I just got paranoid from all it needed in car trek just make sure it’s a good investment and don’t end up broke
Just trash the whole car? I guess you’re right. I’ll just walk away from it.
Go full race mode
Nobody with a brain is going to tell you to try and put it back to stock. It's entire appeal is it's racey look. I suggest you find someone who does interior work like Richard Rawlins of Gas Monkey did with Sue from ASM auto Upolstery, and have them fix the interior, and then get the clutch replaced. Since you only put 5k into it, you have a lot of wiggle room to fix it.
Keep the exterior as is, get rid of most of the interior, fix engine and trans
Solid suggestions. I like the cat in your picture!
I honestly would rebuild the car back to it originals glory. I think it would amazing.
Thanks for watching Geae!
"a lot of fire left in it" LOL
;)
you must have paid a fortune to have it that clean
the clutch is a must for sure but the rest is a crap shoot... the interior could be less expensive than you may think to restore if done be a custom car shop instead of the so called "Authorized" Maserati repair shop your local tuner interior guy can do a great job and be over the moon to be working on an exotic car like that. the missing parts are another problem altogether. and finding those without breaking the bank will be next to impossible but fabrication has its uses and you may be able to make those from scratch (maybe the only option for most of them) if you can find good enough pictures of them to replicate them accurately but the worn and sticky buttons and switches are something else to deal with. for those perhaps a good cleaning and a thin coating of clear 2 part hard setting acrylic resin will be the ticket. there are so many ways to go about it weather a full restoration or just a mod to taste. or even some combination of those.. but the choice is ultimately yours.
Thanks for the excellent breakdown Kenneth! I really appreciate detailed comments like this. Thanks for watching as well!
Sloppy seconds, strange that you don't like his sweat. Are you racist?
I would've. I hate google/yt spelchekr
I dig it. Alot. I've borrowed 5k and pulled out some tools for that. Absolutely
Heck yeah man. Thanks for watching!
We all love Maseratis. But they suck. But like the crazy hot girlfriends who takes all your money. But we keep coming back for more for some reason.
I own a 2011 QP 4.7 S my self, I also installed a complete and louder exhaust system that makes me smile all the time I floor it, please make it a tidy track car since the interior is already gone, make it like a european track-day car or a 2 seater club racing car with striped racing interior with co-pilot rally computers, I´m really excited to see if you can make it a really good track-day or tarmac rally car, with good handling by improving suspension, brakes, body stiffness (roll-cage) and a weight saving program.
Thanks for watching! Stay tuned!
It looks cool from a distance at least like you said lol. I want to like these but they’re just so rough to maintain
Refurbish the car
Thanks for the input Fred!
It's way beyond putting back to STD just keep ripping on that God awful interior till you have enough room for a roll cage then let the track day fun begin
Face absolutely smashed. Please send hospital money to my Facebook page @dusty bothams for following your instructions per liking this video
Race car race car
You got it Craig!
Hey there. I tried scolling through the comments. Some people have complained about the audio. But I didn't see anyone offer tips, or address the both easiest fix and most annoying thing. Here are some tips :) You need to put a High Pass Filter on all audio recorded in a car. There's so much sub low stuff in this it makes my house shake, around 7:40 is a good example. Play that through a decent system, loud enough to hear you talk, and you'll feel what I'm on about. If you don't have access to powerful system that goes low, take my word for it and put a steep HPF at around 60Hz or so. Your mic is fine. Just your mix that needs a bit of work. Some compression on both the mic track and master bus would go a long way. And if you want background music, that is audible (even loud), but you can still "talk through", figure out how to make "audio ducking" work in whatever you're using. Says he who has 63 subscribers to someone who has 17k... anyway, don't even know what compelled me. Maybe it's a pet peeve of mine that so many car youtubers miss and is so easily fixed. The HPF that is, the other stuff, that's a bit more fiddly :) The footage is great, and good luck!
Hey, thank you so much! This is great feedback (pun intended) 🎤 and I will look into making these changes. Thank you for taking the time to type that out in a clear and constructive way!
Needs two turbos and a super charger
Both?!
Don’t use crappy music in your videos
Gut the interior, add roll cage and drive the piss out of it. Fix the clutch of course.
Got the 3200gt, it's a courageous Italian beast with elegance and classy features.. So go for this 4200gt and try to do a renovation and will be waiting for your next episode
Awesome! I love the looks of the 3200. Thanks for watching!
I am jealous.
Was this your favorite car from Car Trek? Thanks for watching!
Make it as good as new and let travarish regret selling it “its a joke” And keep the livery
Cool
You will do that every time? The dance I mean?
No one else thinks this looks like a Honda Accord from the rear?
Strip it completely, put in a role cache , new clutch and have fun is what I would do. Like a Porsche GT3 but this would be a Maserati GT3 :-)
buy a doner parts car to fix it. Keep the race car theme.
I think that’s my best bet!
As close to stock as you possibly can.
Noted!
Stock
You need a ferrari 458
@Elliott Alvis those Maserati are horrible. Let's hope he dosent need to make repairs. It will cost him over 5k real quick.
I agree with you there Eric!
Ls swap is
Stick it up to Tavarish and make it an actual Trofeo replica lol
Back to stock put the interior back on
Race car
Technically that was a smart buy, the new exposure to the channel from the car worth it
Don't even try to restore the interior. Just gut it and put in what you like. For sure, yu need to get the electronics sorted. Replace the clutch. go over every gasket and connection to make absolutely sure that nothing leaks. Missing stuff like that is how fires happen. It's pretty clear that you're going to need to sort out the wheels and suspension too. Nothing should rub like that. Having spent all your money, I would still hate to see this car parted out.
That is a Miserati, not a Maserati
Race car!
Keep working on it and bring its full potential back
Strip out what's left of the interior and make it a track car, its too far gone to fix up and finding parts will be a headache
He said 7 quorts, whats that?
Rebuild to actually race car? Ls drift build? RB26 sawp?
I would make it as close to a race car as possible. It is pointless to try and restore the interior completely as it is too far gone, so it should be removed and replaced with race seats and a simple dashboard with all the gauges and switches you need. A roll cage would be a nice addition, too. Maybe you can even sell the better parts and get some money back. Then get wheels that actually fit, maybe some coilovers to boot. Fix what needs fixing, like the clutch.
turn it into a Drift car!
Who would have known
Rebuild what needs to be rebuilt then refinish the inside as close to the original ones as possible
@Acid is pretty good oh for sure, that’s going away
Elliott Alvis ditch the leather play Matt 😂
Elliott Alvis I would love to see that thing completely re did on the inside and see how everything will be after it’s done
I think that’s a pretty good plan!
Bring the interior back to stock and fix the mechanicals, but keep that awesome wrap and that glorious howling exhaust note!
Keep the race car theme.
Wait! Is that a shirt from 6dollarshirts like I mentioned?
Rototy swap
Race car theme and fix the interior to the original state 👍👍👍 I come from Tavarish channel, greetings from Germany
It looks like a bennys customs gta car
make a race car!
stockkkk
Interrior as original as possible, exterior the tribute deco
Make it look like the picture you showed of the gt
Keep it as a tribute car, fix it up as Freddie intended it to be
Find a way to have it vaporized in a nuclear explosion. That would be a good video.
Strip out the interior. Turn it into race car style. Pull out the engine, reseal & do whatever maintenance it needs. Pull off the stickers & do a flat black wrap with some type of flo color wheel. You’ll then have a sharp looking car that nobody knows what it is and yet it sounds bad ass bc it has a Ferrari engine
Italian Prelude?
make it a proper racecar, seats off, center console off, just put on race seats and remove everything else. do the clutch yourself and take to some trackdays
Lean into the race car thing, stripped interior, roll cage, go 100% race car
Bring her back to track day banger
Make it a fun custom race car (you do not actually need to race it, more the look of a race car). Nice custom race interior and custom center console with toggle switches. Good luck.
My thought on it. Trade me the car for my Baja bug, and build that, and let me build racecar and hate my life
Go full on race with it. Get some forged magnesium wheels and bigger brakes. Get rid of that shifter and get one that exposes the gates and has a nice billet handle. As for seats, go all out sports, maybe Sparco to keep it Italian. It’s an awesome car, and for the love of that motor alone is worth keeping. You’ll be able to say you have one of the last great Italian sports tourers created by Maserati; the stuff they’re making now is just so unenthusiastic.
race car
I think going the route of stock plus, so bringing it up to stock, but then doing tasteful modifications to update the styling. Get wheels that fit obviously, and just make a good looking cruiser that you can take to shows and on rallies.
That’s a good suggestion! The best of both worlds.
Just dump it and buy a Citroen 2CV!
Needs to be the race car tribute done correctly... good luck!
Thanks Jonathon!
Well I would say make it stock and beautiful again, BUT considering the cost and amount of work needed Im not so sure. Perhaps make it a road going stripped out race car. Remove as much of the interior as you can, carpets head liner all of it and clean it all up so it looks like a brand new dtm touring car on the inside. Fix the mechanics and get a proper rap and wing that actually fits the style of the car and has some proper aero going. This route may be the cheapest and still be bad ass.
Leave the race car look but repair the engine and interior
I like that suggestion. Thanks!
Honda accord tail lights
Race car.......
I would continue with the "race car" build. It sounds great! Looking forward to see if this Mas continues to live and fight the good fight; or decides to go down in flames like a beautiful phoenix.
I guess you could say, this new purchase is. FIRE.
😂🔥
Track car
Back to stock.
Pay for all the rallies and take it....I dare you!!!!!!
Gut it out of all the weight you can, Drop an LS in it, good tires and track it.
