  • Also, the A71 is getting 3 years updates

  • This is slightly misleading, the galaxy note 9 was release 9th august 2018 and the Galaxy a17 was release 17 jan 2020; so you are comparing phones only 1 year 5 months apart, not two years; this up loaded jul 2020, prices would have probably been significantly more different from the release date of the a71 by then.

  • U see my friend just got a Samsung A51 and for MYR1100 it doesn’t even have 1080 60fps recording. Like I wouldn’t expect 4K 60 but having no 1080 60 in 2021 is just dumbass. For the same price u can easily get an iPhone 8 with 256gb. Nowadays used flagship phones are more worth it than they used to When I was still in school I got an iPhone 4 for MYR250, while market price was around MYR320. It was 6 years old at that time and we all know that shit couldn’t run iOS 7 well. But I got an iPhone SE last year for MYR300 (which I no longer use. I currently daily an iPhone X) and that shit was blazing fast. Of course go to anyone and people would argue that new midrange phones are relatively faster than older flagships and a used flagship could run you into malfunctioning parts. My first used iPhone X had flash and gps issues. I got it replaced within its warranty period and im fine. I used to use an oppo F7 and I would say the overall experience was rather disastrous... u see within the first year, its charging cable and headphone cables got brittle and I had to dispose them both. Not only that. I don’t know is it a mid range oppo thing, but the headphones I got produced rather ear drum hurting audio than what I would say a decent day to day headphones. It’s as if oppo doesn’t see the importance of my ears. Ok never mind about that. My oppo was god damn it slow before I got android 9. It was ok on android 9 but when it came to android 10, my phone became completely unusable due to android 10 being resource intensive and my oppo became obsolete from that moment onwards. Charging was also slow and my battery drains out seriously after android 10. FIstream is ok but try playing games with it. Yes it does use a lot of battery and for some instances my game throttles and that’s quite a bummer cuz My oppo isn’t even like idk, 5 years old? It is no wonder more people in my country at least are going for iPhones more than before due to the fact that iPhones won’t go outdated as quick as androids do. For me people who buy android phones are really rich because it seems as if they upgrade their devices every 2 to 3 years. That’s people who buy midrange phones. Such people are also immune to poor resale value cuz my oppo which I got it for MYR1,400 back then only fetches MYR300 this year. I get it is already 3 years old but I guess these phones, they already start to depreciate the moment they are being parked in the Oppo concept store. Seriously I wished I could see bad days coming because when my oppo was new it felt present proof but I never thought much of whether it would be future proof. Turns out that if apple used to purposely get people to buy their new devices by slowing older ones down, i would say midrange phones are probably preplanned for these obsolescences too. Such mockery in consumer world.

  • I just went from Iphone 6S to the A71... can't say I prefer the metallic frame, the fact is actually love how lightweight it feels. I believe some "features" are just focused on subjective stuff that sell but doesn't make it better, costly or premium? yes perhaps.

If I loose it chances are a cheaper phone would more likely get turned into a lost and found than a current or older flagship phone

  • problem is these old flagship phones are still more expensive. Unless you are buying a used or "renewed" phone. I couldn't find a decent flagship from 2018 under 500 before tax. the note 9 I ordered, for 400, was good at first , but there were noticeable chips and marks on the outer edges nbd. However the amoled screen went out within a week of use. which is common for these older amoled phones that are used or "renewed". in all honesty for the price and performance, you are much safer going with a NEW mid range than an OLD flagship. This is coming from my personal experience, so maybe don't take it to seriously but consider it, at the very least

Sure in the Note9 vs A71 the dinamic range was better for the A71 but overall the picture was of higher quality in the Note9 with less ISO, in the Oppo picture I noticed exactly the oposite of what he said and the X2 Lite picture looked like it had a higher ISO (and noise) and the contras and saturation is too high.

  • about the warranty: honestly, i compare phones to cars in a lot of things, the only difference being that cars last longer in general. I made the mistake 4 months ago of, for the first time being "reasonable" and "smarter" and buying a lightly used, fairly new car with warranty and all that for about 15 grand. I like the car but ive genuinly only regretted it so far. Selling this one after x amount of miles and time is gonna loose me waaaay more money than selling an older one. I cant do as much custom stuff to it because of the warranty. There isnt as much known about it in terms of long term stuff. value for money is just worse, disregarding some of the tech-y stuff thats just not needed. If i spent a third of the money and bought a 10 year old, way nicer car, all of that wouldnt be an issue and because it would be a more luxurious car for less or at worst, the same money, i probably wouldnt loose any of the tech besides maybe android auto or something like that, which i personally dont even need or if i would, could retrofit, and probably would GAIN luxury and comfort because again, older but higher class car. Same deal with the phones, besides the resell value.

Only the higher quality materials, better display and OIS makes up for the extra battery life and updates, you can always update it with custom roms (no bloatware though)
