  • I think CJ doesn't get credited on the SDP for a great prediction because maybe it's outside all of their official channels, as in there's no motivation to lift something up (the SDP) that's outside their control or benefit. The usual corporate poilics.

  • Adding all of Vancouver's expiring contracts- Including Spooner's buyout and the overage penalties they are facing this year- the Cannucks are freeing up over 22 million dollars next off season, followed by an additional 26 and a half million the following year (this includes Luongo recapture penalty finally coming off the books). They don't have to move or buyout Eriksson, as 22 million should be enough to sign Petterson, Huhges and Demko while leaving extra cap space to fill out the roster for a year. If the 'Nucks competitive these next two years (and if they sign their young players to team friendly deals- something our Leafs just wouldn't do) this will be one of the best rebuilds I have ever seen.

  • I understand Adam’s look at the Schmidt trade for Benning/Canucks if you just look at it from Schmidt is worth way more than a 3rd... but I wouldn’t consider it “grinding Vegas down to a 3rd” as he put it, when you consider the rest of the details. Vegas had already put themselves over the cap at that point, and they had to make a cap dump. 1 year of a bottom 4 veteran in Marc Staal cost the Rangers an additional 2nd round pick for 1 year of like $4m relief. Getting a 3rd round pick back when they’d already put themselves in a bad situation for a top pairing defensemen was going to be the best they could hope for. Nobody was going to give up a 2nd or 1st to help them get cap space during the flat cap- and after they’d put themselves over the cap so everyone *knew* they had to make a big trade for cap space.

Sutter, Baertschi, Edler, Benn all off the books next year $4.38+3.37+6+2=$15.75M Pearson @ $3.75M brings that up to $19.5M. $19.5M cap space is Hughes and Pettersson. • Gallagher said money was important, but winning and context was also very important. Bergevin basically reminded him of that publicly. Gallagher already is best at 16-17 minutes a night. Julien rolls 4 lines, and makes little difference between lines 1-2-3 in his perfect world. Now, Julien gets his dream team, with 4 NHL lines putting high pressure. Bergevin really plugged holes (1 G, 1 D, 2F) with big additions, to show the reset was over and he was going for it.

    Liam McCroryLiam McCrory3 kuukautta sitten
  • STL thought they could go for back to back, therefore they traded for Justin Faulk at a relatively low rate which made them deep on the right side of the defence. Resigning him was probably a mix of him not wanting to play without an extension and STL thinking he would have a good enough season to be able to trade him later on. Sure, STL think Parayko could be their nr1, but the decision to sign Faulk to the contract wasn't made based on that premise. Bottom line, STL should have traded Faulks contract before free agency for whatever they could have gotten in order to retain Pietrangelo. Even after singing Krug they should have traded Faulk in order to bring back Petro.

    iouz88iouz883 kuukautta sitten
    • Now Heres a Wrench what If Petro intended to leave regardless the Blues Knew then signed Faulk as a Fall back If He changed His mind they trade Faulk. Now Armstrong holds out as long as he can even offering Petro what He wanted minus the NTC and NMC knowing he would decline so they get Tory Krug. I think Petro didnt want to look like a mook so he faked all the 'I want to stay garbage.' Making St Louis look like the Mook.

There is no point to do that with Beagle because you save 1.3 mil. this season, but only 600k next season. It is cheaper to send them down to AHL.

  • 26:18 - "I think Vancouver´s cap problems will continue to be an issue" - At least 23.4 million coming of the books next season (24.4 if Eriksson is sent to the minors) and ANOTHER 28.185 million the year after (Eriksson 6, Boeser 5.875, Roussel 3, Beagle 3, Motte 1.225, MacEwen 0.825, Rahtbone 0.925, Holtby 4.3, Luongo 3.035). Of course some of them need new contracts (Boeser, Ratbone and maybe Motte and MacEwen) and others need to be replaced (Holtby, Roussel, Beagle) but that won´t be a problem with 28 million to spend.

    Joey KillerJoey Killer3 kuukautta sitten
    • @J M I guess math isn´t your best skill. 28/7 is 4 "a pop". :-) Except for Boeser, we are talking 3rd pair defencemen, 4th line wingers and a backup goalie.

      Joey KillerJoey Killer3 kuukautta sitten
    • So signing 7 players/ replacements with 28 is 3 a pop. Some of those guys aren’t taking 3. Lol.

      J MJ M3 kuukautta sitten
  • I like this Podcast but it drives me crazy sometimes, when they discuss topics and have their opinions based on completaly wrong facts. 20:15 - There´s not "9 million coming of the books next year", there´s 23.4 million!!! (Sutter 4.375, Pearson 3.75, Baertschi 3.367, Edler 6, Benn 2, Spooner 1.03 and Pettersson 0.925, Hughes 0.917 and Demko 1.05 as well). And they can get another million by sending Eriksson to the AHL. 20:20 - Canucks will not buy out Loui Eriksson after next season. That will only save them 2 million on the cap and add 1 million to the cap the year after. It they send him to the AHL instead, it will save them 1 million and not add anything to the year after. Oh, and by the way; 19:55 - Schmidt is left handed but plays on the right side, not the left side.

    Joey KillerJoey Killer3 kuukautta sitten
    • Errors here or there on factual stuff is fine I think, these are a good group of guys with level-headed opinions for the most part and are entertaining so no issues from me :)

      DriveThruDriveThru3 kuukautta sitten
    • Also Seattle might take Holtby and other players from Vancouvers roster which would open even more cap

      Curtis TonelloCurtis Tonello3 kuukautta sitten
    • Schmidt plays both sides. Green prefers left handed guys on the left side, but he might have to make an exception here since the right side is so weak. But yes, you are correct, the Canucks don't have cap issues after this year. They can also do a bridge deal with Hughes because he can't get offer sheeted (10.2c status).

  • You guys could get scoops, two scoops of raisins if you were sponsored by Raisin Bran instead of Frosted Flakes.

    Kevin LeeKevin Lee3 kuukautta sitten
  • 19:30 - Canucks have 2 million in cap space right now, but Baertschi (will 100%) and Eriksson (can) be sent to the AHL to free up another 2 million. They can also free up another 2 million by buying out Sutter, thanks to Virtanen filing for arbitration. That gives the team an extra buyout possibility, if they choose to accept the contract avorded by the arbitrator.

    Joey KillerJoey Killer3 kuukautta sitten
  • Sutter 4.375 Pearson 3.750 Baertschi 3.366 Alex Edler 6.00 Jordie benn 2.00 That’s 20 million coming of next year. Hoglander and podz replaces Pearson and sutter for less 9.5x5 to Pettersson 8.5x6 to huggy. Buy out Ericsson hope two of the D prospect can take one top 4 and one top 6.

    PetterHughesPetterHughes3 kuukautta sitten
    • @J M Everybody other than Tanner Pearson mentioned above is either over payed or not playing anyway. Most of our problems can be solved from within as defensemen Juolevi, Rafferty and Rathbone will have a shot at the roster next year (which could potentially replace Edler) whereas Benn can be replaced by a cheap signing. As for Pearson, with Podkolzin and Hoglander coming up, he becomes expendable. Sutter, if Nucks don’t resign Gaudette can be easily replaced for what he brings in free agency. I get that they aren’t in an ideal situation but it’s really not as bad as people make it out to be.

      Damien MerronDamien Merron3 kuukautta sitten
    • @J M Actually Sutter, Baertschi, Edler, and Benn are all overpaid, so the Canucks could replace them with cheaper contracts and still be effective. And they could fill a few of the roster spots with rookies like Hoglander and Podkolzin who will be on their entry-level contracts. Pettersson's and Hughes's entry-level contracts will also come off the books, so they could be transferred to Hoglander and Podkolzin

      PetterHughesPetterHughes3 kuukautta sitten

  • Hearing these guys talk about canucks is kind of painful sometimes. Canucks have 27 million next year to sign oettersson and hughes. Lots of bad contracts come off the books that year then the next year

    • @Ijekster The Fake Account Raffarty 2 career NHL games Rathbone 0 career NHL games Juolevi 45 career NHL games none of them have the sample size necessary to be able to say they are NHL ready so after next season Canucks D is Hughes (resigned) Myers (oof) Schmidt (good) and 3 mystery boxes

  • To say that MTL won the Subban trade is still too early. Weber is nearing the end of his career. Guy might have a couple injury riddled seasons left in the tank. Your only hope is hiding him on LTIR before his play starts to seriously decline. Subban is still young enough to bounce back.

  • They offered Petro atleast 8M, Petro just wanted a bigger signing bonus. When they signed Faulk covid wasnt a thing and there wasnt a flat cap they planed to keep Petro. They offered basically what he was asking for and he left. Faulk probably has a bounce back season since he wont be on the third D line. (unbiased opinion)
