4x4 Build Ep.8 - Roof, Seat, Front End

Latest video: fistream.info/work/videot/d5iQfaSao5C2vIU
In this video I'm drilling holes and bolting down the wire mesh cargo hull divider from the old Peugeot Partner to the still-not-welded-yet roll bar. To mount the driver's seat level to the ground I have to consider the slope I gave the tube frame bottom half couple of episodes ago and fabricate the seat mounts accordingly. Then I continue with the boxy tube frame construction on the front and finish the week off by building the roof frame which still has to be connected to the front end. I already ordered lights for this UTV and hopefully they'll arrive next week and I can incorporate the shape and size of the LED lights into the project. This project will continue next week.
This is part of a series of a four wheel drive utility vehicle build to lessen the work load on my trusty 2002 Honda Foreman Rubicon TRX500FA. This partially answers the question "Why?" but for those who want to ask "why don't you just buy a side-by-side instead of building one?" I just want to say - I'm not made of money. Side-by-sides are ridiculously expensive, even the car I drive around daily is worth less (not worthless though!), hell, it is even worth less than my 2002 Honda ATV.
"How much HP will it have?" - the 1.4 litre FWD petrol engine I'm planning on using has 55 kw and this will not change, but the torque will be tripled via the BMW differentials I'm using to transfer power to front and rear axles.
"It will be too heavy!" - this project just like the firewood processor project does not have to float. And a heavier vehicle will handle better anyway when hauling heavy loads.
Stay tuned for future episodes! Thanks for watching!

  • Donn you are Russian? Ukrainian? Belarus? This is not the first video I've looked at your metalworking machine made in the USSR. Repeatedly in the video there are things that come from the Soviet Union, or from Russia (the engine from the snowmobile Buran, new clutch cylinders from LADA, when building the air compressor you started the electric motor with a switch from the USSR, the junction box and the insides of it were also signed in Russian letters).

    • @Donn DIY FIstream is not really the right site for vids of you using your "equipment" - there are others though ;-) Looking forward to some videos where you use what you have made for chores and tasks. Both firewood processing and the amphib (I bet there are some beavers that need a visit). You do good stuff with your storytelling.

    • Videos of using my equipment are inevitable since in February for example I have to start making firewood again with my homemade firewood processor for the next couple of Winters (not ideal leaving only one Summer for the first batch to season but the second one will be well seasoned). And I have to get out of the forest a couple of dried up Spruces and cut them into lumber. So you see what I mean. More videos will come. 😉

  • Constructive criticism is always welcome but it has its limits. In the time I’ve followed you I’ve sometimes told you what I do at my shop BUT I’ve always added that This works for me. That doesn’t mean it works for everyone. I would love a liquid cooled saw but I can’t justify the expense for what I need it for. Guess I will just risk burning down my shop 😊! Just keep doing what you do. 99% of us LOVE your channel and learn from every episode. Thanks!!

  • You should get yourself some rivnuts. Instead of welding nuts you drill a hole and install these nuts and it is simple and very clean install. It will fit many thicknesses of materials. People who say that evolution saw will burn down our shop have never used one. Abrasive cutoff saws are way more of a hazard with more heat. your grinder can set fire to your shop, do they want you to stop using that. LOL You are doing very nice work young man .Keep it up.
